Love the 3rd gens so therefore I have to love the TPI and its torque. I am in process of rebuilding my 1992 L98 California Highway Patrol Camaro. I bought it back in 2001 with blown motor and finally getting around to getting it up and running. It has been a big help reading some of the TPI articles and I would like to thanks GM HighTech Perf. for not forgetting about the TPI folks. Keep up the good work.

I just caught the last installment of SOSN. I'm looking to build a similar engine, I was wondering which vortec heads are used? I know they come in a few flavors and I'm specifically interested in the valve sizes.

I currently have the L98 in my 89 IROC but previous owner put a carb in. Where can I get a TPI or should I just put in a 350 crate motor.

4 the 89 car. I would put in a stock 350 chip first. Unplug your knock sensor, bump the base timing to 10-12degs, just make sure to listen for knock.Descreen the maf and cut the fins out. Get a ajustable fuel psi regulator and bump fuel psi to 50-52 psi. Thats budget stuff or free mods.. These mods plus a shift kit got my 89 350 car into the 13.70 range with M&H tires. A lil intake porting,zz2 GM cam, slp headers and exhaust got my (play 305 motor)into the 13.8s. I also had 3.27 gear rearend.

How come I never see a TPI 350 mated to a manual transmission? I know the 50s had sticks but why not the 5.7s? And to Ttop350 wouldnt descreening the MAF cause turbulence,(the screen I always thought was there to reduce turbulence,-I mean its gotta be there for a reason right?) giving a false reading to the maf?

Glad to see other TPI lovers out there, i recently converted my 92 TBI 5.0 to TPI. With the 5.0 stroker kit, Larger Runners and manifolds, boosted fuel, and T-5 swap i'm blowing the doors off the local ford competition. Ya gotta love cheap muscle.

The screen majiors in junk catcher with a minor in turbulence reduction. Just run your K&N and you'll b fine. My descreened maf had 200,000 miles on it before it failed. Im curently working on getting the maf guts in a 4" aluminum tube. I have had it up and running with no probs yet.(Still stock chip) I have a big ci smallblock in my car with a miniram. the biggest prob with these maf cars is the meter pegs out way to early.. mine pegs somewher in the 3,300rpm range. The computer is the problem, It wasnt ment to "see" much airflow..

I'm so happy to see a site devoted to the TPI. I have a 83 C10 short bed step side I've been playing with for a dozen years. The 454 ( 3rd motor in ) spun a bearing, so I took the engine out of one of my sons 87 IROC Z28, rebuilt it, all new sensors and injectors, headers, 1.6 roller rockers, and a good exhaust system ( 2-1/2' w/ flowmasters ) and a rebuilt 700R4. Runs like a clock...love the midrange, Dependable as hell, and really not that bad on gas. I love the MAF version, very adaptable. This is my last motor in the truck, too good to try anything else.
