I asked you guys to do this test a few years ago and you responded that it would not be worth the trouble. Well, I am glad to see you changed your mind. I am disapointed that you did not include the SLP Blackwing that was optional on 2002 Camaro SS and Firehawks. It would be nice to see how it performed.
Also, if the SLP lid has a tight fit, the others that fit loose must be terrible. I send occasional oil samples to Blackstone Labs, and when I installed my SLP lid, they told me that air was getting by my filter causing high silicon in my oil. I re-installed the stock lid and the next oil sample was normal. I tried the SLP lid one more time and the silicon was high again. This is one reason I would like to know how good the Blackwing is. That lid is made to factory quality standards, so it should fit as good as the stock lid. If it performs as well as the aftermarket SLP lid, then it should be the best choice, and the people that already have one should not bother purchasing another.
Thanks for the article. Other than the omission of the Blackwing, you did a great job. Maybe you can run a future story where you compare the Blackwing to the aftermarket SLP and ofcourse get a fresh baseline with the stock lid.

You may want to look into the rubber gasket that should be included with your replacement filter. If you don't have it, you can contact K&N and receive one, I believe they are free with shipping or something along those lines.
To my knowledge, this is not a common problem, and this is the first case I personally have encountered with high silicone in oil.

I am not using a K&N. I use Fram paper filters. No gasket required.
