I was wondering would it be possible to put a 3800 out of a 1995 Buick Regal into a 1987 Buick Regal? and also make it Rear wheel drive with a 5 speed manual trans.

So does anyone think it will work OR bad idea and don't even try it? I have the 1995 Regal because it was my brothers and he got rear ended and is not fixable. The 1987 Buick Regal limited has the 231 V-6
Non-turbo with a hole in one piston, the Original Idea for the 1987 was to find a Cheap Buick 350 from a 1970's Buick and use that, I have no Idea for sure on what to do.

Is your 95 3800 a series one or series 2? The fourth gen F bodies with the 3800 series 2 have a 5 speed manual that should bolt up to your 3800. You should also be able to use the flywheel and clutch assembly from one of these cars. But you will have to change the bushing in the crank for the auto car to a manual trans pilot bushing. Some great sites to check out for 3800s are www.firebirdv6.com and www.intense-racing.com. Intense Racing is located in Ohio just north of Columbus. They specialize in 3800 series 2s, but also work with the series 1 engines. I have a friend with a Pontiac Fiero who built a 3800 supercharged engine for it and they helped him with that. Any 3800 questions that you have, they should be able to help you with. Give them a call at 614.873.6499. As far as my opinion is concerned, I would ditch the 3800 that you have and swap in the whole engine and tranny from a fourth gen f body. They are already made to work together and already set up for rear wheel drive. Plus the 3800 series 2 is a much better engine. The one from a fourth gen has an aluminum intake manifold, so you don't run into the EGR issue that the front drive engines have. Intense is a great company, they have built or own pretty much every record holding 3800.
