Could somenoe please help shine some light on the subject? I have a 98 Chevy Z71 with 160K. I recently replaced the manifold gasket but forgot to mark the distributor when I took it off (however the service engine soon has yet to come on). Every since that gasket was replaced the truck shutters, especially in fourth gear on the highway. I took it to a transmission shop and they told me it was the torque converter trying to lockup. I believe the problem lies in the distributor, because I have never had a problem with the transmission. Could the distributor cause the torque converter to lockup? Is the PCM trying to compensate for the distributor being off?

I don't think your distributor is the problem. Sounds like the kickdown cable for the trans is out of adjustment. I have a '92 Silverado, after I changed my cam I had the same thing happening, I adjusted the kickdown cable, and hte problem went away.

My brother inlaw had that problem and it was because the timing was off but the dist. gear can do it as well witch will throw off the timing also.

I just read your posting from a some time ago in regards to your distributor and transmission. I did the same job you did, changed the manifold gasket and put the distributor back incorrectly. I got it back in the correct place but my trans now is not shifting right. It is staying in gear way to long, I have to really punch it for it to shift. Can you tell me what you did to fix your problem?
Thanks for the time, Dan S.
