It sounds like a problem with the in tank fuel pump. Since the pump is submersed in gasoline, when left to sit for a long period of time it will become coroded and stop functioning, or function just enough to maintain an idle. Have it checked out, that might be your problem.

Hey guy, nice car by the way. Do you have a SES light? is code 33/33/34 present? if no, then the injectors are junk!!.check to ensure fuel pressure is 40-42 psi(check and watch gauge while driving as well)fuel pressure test port is on the pass side of fuel rail w/ a cap screwed on in the back. if this checks out then it would be the injectors.my current car is an 86 TPI CAR.the 1986 TPI motors had the Bosch injector it was a piece of junk!!! (these injectors have a black body. the pintle end of the injector had a buildup of  bad gas and cannot be cleaned!!!especially after 5 years, todays gas has a shelf life of max 1 yr!!!unplug each injector and do a resistance check every injector should be 14-16 ohms ideally 15-16 ohms.Even if they pass the electrical test they would still be bad gas fouled from sitting for 5 years!! before I bought my car it had been sitting for 2 yrs and that was long enough to foul the injectors. my car would start and run every time but would hesitate(when warm) and ran very lean, so check it out. I have owned 3 of these cars (LB9/AUTO'S)and every one of them has needed a set of injectors.GM has used 3 types of injectors since the TPI inception in 1985 -1992: bosch, lucas, and gm multec for the 91 model year. take a multimeter and probe the terminals of each injector(unplug the connector first)you should get between 12-14 ohms if not the internal coils are shot!! this is due to the extremely high underhood temps.you will find that atleast half of them are below 10ohms!! Ihave used the reman injectors- JUNK!!! and even brand new (GM) but they were only good for 100,000kms.The BEST injector so far was the Bosch Design II they come factory on 1997-2000 ford mustang 4.6 GT ONLY. not crown vic.to identify these look for a yellow top on the injector., and a double -check is too look in the end of the injector (intake port) and look and all you should see is 4 or 6 tiny holes if you see a pintle they are Bosch Design I.You can buy these injectors from FIVEO MOTORSPORTS.COM

p.s I have driven my car to over 420,000 kms and tried every injector out there. TIP: 5.7 -22lb/hr 5.0 -19lb/hr. i HOPE THIS HELPS let me know if you need more help. The TPI eng is famous for obscure hard to find problems.

This threads old and dead. But for future reference, when fuel is left in the tank for such a long time, condensation forms on walls and inner ceiling of the tank. The condensation (H2O) then falls into the fuel and sinks to the bottom. Aside from the water (down where the fuel pump pickup is) being REALLY hard on injectors specifically (can ruin a new injector instantly), in this layer of water a colony of bacteria/mold/yeast type stuff grows.
When a vehicle subject to such fuel conditions is first used after an extended period of non use, that "algae" is then sucked into the fuel system.
This is why alot of times, people will say, 'I have drained the fuel several times, and added new fuel, doesnt seem to help.'
Well, they have probably affectively killed the 'algae'. But the dead biomass is still in the tank... plugging or atleast restricting the fuel system.

Hope this helps someone.
