have a '94 gmc with a tbi 350 has 250,000 miles, with no major mech problems still driving it today,,,hint to prolong a engines life,,,change the oil alot, use same type of oil dont switch from one brand to another and stay with the same weight till the engine has over 100,000 miles on it then step up one grade in weight,if using 10-30 go to 10-40,,, also cool the engine down, have a 200 degree thermostat go down to a 180, heat is a engines worse enemy,,run cooler-last longer

Had 236,000 on my 71 Nova 307 when it threw the timing chain and I replaced it with a remanufactured 307. I put 90,000 on that motor and replaced it in 2004 with a GM Performance Products 350 HO Deluxe Crate Motor. The brand new engine had a slight vibration between 50 - 70 mph, but I thought maybe a few thousand miles would smooth things out. So I now have 6000 miles on the motor and with no improvement and decided to have it torn down and balanced to see where the problem was. It turns out to be the crankshaft is out of balance and GM advertises this motor as being balanced. Of course it's out of warranty so I'm on my own, but I've owned this Nova for 32 years, have a total of 334,000 miles on it and receive many compliments about the car. However I would not advise anyone to buy one of GM's crate engines as I've now heard that there are quality control problems with their products. Does anyone know if these engines are assembled in Mexico?

I Have 255,000 on my 87 Caprice Wagon, only 100k were on the original 307 Olds, but I beat the snot out of the next 307 Olds for 150k, It was built by Golens engines was dynoed at 310hp and never gave me any problems until it blew a head gasket. Golens said that he would honor his lifetime labor warrenty to fix it but when I took the motor out, it stayed outside over the weekend and someone and the scrap guy grabbed it by accident and junked it!![]() Well good time to upgrade. now i have a 400hp GM Performance ZZ4. and with a 200r4 from Bowtie Overdrive and 3.42's in the rear end and a total car weight of about 4300lb (with my tools in it) She still hauls ass and gets 14.1MPG on the highway!!
