I want to add alot of power to my 5.3 for pulling a trailer. I like turbos but hate the pricetag.

Without changing the cam, best thing you can do is swap to longer ratio rocker arms. This will act like isntalling a bigger cam. You want to go with 1.8 rockers, dual springs, and aftermarket pushrods.

THERES QUITE A BIT TO DO. IVE DONE A FEW THINGS SUCH AS K&N AIR INTAKE ($300), GRANATELLI MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR ($400), HYPERTECH POWER PROGRAMMER ($300), FLOWMASTER EXHUAST ($300). EACH OFFERING THEIR OWN HORSEPOWER INCREASES AND PEARKS. IVE NEVER HAD IT MY TRUCK (2001 SILVERADO 5.3 2WD EXT CAB) ON A DYNO BUT ITS DOES HAVE SOME GET UP AND GO. IVE BEEN LOOKING INTO HEADERS FOR SURE AND MAYBE EVEN A THROTTLE BODY. ALL COME WITH A PRETTY LITTLE PRICE TAG JUST A FEW IDEAS.

The best thing to do is to add a cam and get a custom tune. You will gain anywhere from 80-100 extra horses.Check out ls1truck.com to check out the results.

I'M NOT SURE WHAT YEAR IS TRUCK,BUT W/ CAM WILL THROW OFF 4/8 ENGINE ECONOMY, IF EQUIPT. WITH ONE. PUT A CAT-BACK EXHAUST( STAINLESS LAST 4EVER) HEADERS (PRICY ONES WILL LAST )TOO, TUNER ,DYNO IT. YOU FEEL THE DIFFERANCE & PERFORMANCE ALONG WITH THE PRINT OUT, FROM BASE RUN TO FINAL RUN. YOU CAN PUT PERFORAMANCE HEADS WHICH CAN GIVE YOU 30 HP. MORE. IT WILL COST SOME BUT THE RESULTS WILL FEEL,SOUND AND RUN WAY BETTER OVER STOCK.

this thread is full of misinformation, horrible
intake, exhaust, custom computer tune, if you really want to pull a trailer often, I wouldn't go with a big stall as I usually suggest, you'll build up too much heat
if towing, you'll want gears, at least 4.10s, then a computer tune, the tuner will be able to compensate for any irregularities
you can do headers and make some gains, but you'll also go deaf and be obnoxious at higher RPM's (as when towing), so you'll have to have a custom exhaust built (extra resonaters, bigger muffler)
2003 Chevy Silverado
you have a 4.8/5.3/6.0? you need: cold air intake, exhaust system and a tune, see my posts for more details!
