Hi, y'all. I just bought a 94 Z-28. It's already got a few mods- an SLP intake and cat-back, 4.10 ( ) gears and an unknown posi unit (that works quite well, thank you ).
Anyway, I need to retune it; at 70mph, it shows an indicated 110 and bumps the top-speed limiter. I also want to firm up the transmission.
What tuning device would you recommend? Or would you just dyno-tune it?
I want to drop those 4.10s- I have a 40 mile freeway commute!! It was hell just driving it home!! I'll probably put something around 3.55 or so.
Well, thanks for any help. Eric B. aka Smokeydog

Eric,
Sounds like you have already been having some fun with the car!
I would look into a couple of tuning options...
LS1 Edit is going to give you a ton of control but needs to be done by a professional tuner who really understands the software. Another program called Tuner Cat will also work and has similar abilities. Both of these should be done on a dyno and will give you the biggest increase in both HP and drivability.
You may also want to consider buying a handheld programmer like the Hypertech as it will be more of a 'do it yourself' plug and play option. This will get rid of your limiter and gives you control of the speedo correction.
Call around to a couple of good tuners in your area and see if they already have some of this software.
Good luck and enjoy the car,
Justin @ GMHTP

I've thought of playing with the tune myself but I really just don't have the time.
I've heard some pretty mixed reviews of the handhelds, so I'm skeptical about most of them.
I've got a custom mail order tune on my truck and DAMN! Now that's the stuff!! Who are the tuners for the LT1s?
Thanks for your time, Justin.
And, yeah... it's a lot of fun as is
Well... up to about 75mph, anyway

I agree that a handheld is usually a compromise. Unfortunately, I don't know any LT1 tuners well enough to recommend one personally but I would tell you to do some searching (google : LT1 Mail Order Tuners ) and also look on some of the forums (LS1Tech, etc) to do some research.
Finding someone local is usually my preference as it allows you to work with them to get everything perfect. You may also call the people who tuned your truck they may be able to help you out or point you in the right direction.
Keep us posted!

Looks like we think alike
I've been talking to a couple mail order guys. I should probably go down and talk to the shop I've dealt with before, but I know they'll be several $$$ more than the mail order guys.
I'm gonna try that first. I'll post my results

I had my computer tuned by pcmforless.com and the car runs flawlessly. They can even send you one through an e-mail if you want, you just need to buy an ALDL cable. And the tune is only about $100

Ha...that's what I've decided to do. We've emailed back and forth a couple times. I just need to send the form in and pay. I'll post the results
