Hello I just got an 8.5" rearend from a guy and it has 30 spindle, 3.42 gears Posi, disc breaks longer wheel studs. Anywhoo what I want to know what else do I need to do to make it stronger to handle 550 HP. This will be going into my 1986 El Camino.

thanks

Brad

Shouldn't need to do much of anything.  Stock 8.5" rears are pretty stout and there are many turbo Regals running more HP than that with no problems.  If anything, you can do c clip eliminators.

Checked around some other forums and 1quick6 is right. Your rear end should be able to handle 550hp.

The 8.5 grand national rear should not even break a sweat with 550hp.
A buddy of mine has a GN with 675HP at the crank and still using the 8.5 rear.
It will be fine.

Agreed, C-clip eliminators wouldn't be a bad idea, either. If you plan on adding more power and are using a transbrake (or a manual trans) then you might have to upgrade to 33-spline axles. Otherwise you are good to go.
