Hi all,
Sorry - subject should have read Computer and wiring Questions...
I'm currently looking for a 71 or 72 GMC Jimmy project. Finding one that isn't a basket case or rust bucket is starting to test my patience. So in the mean time I figure I might as well start researching the electrical side of my planned engine/tranny swap.
"My plan" is to swap in a truck L76 and 6L90 automatic. I have started researching GM engine & transmission combo's but haven't yet confirmed the 6L90 is offered with the L76. Am I correct that the 6L90 also goes by the MYC code?
I figure if the combo is offered in a vehicle I can get the stock engine and trans controllers for the swap. (I'd like to buy the whole package from a salvage yard) That should simplify things. If not, then I need to learn even more about what ECM and TCM's work together and how they communicate. I'd also like to learn about wire harnesses for swaps, I'm going to assume aftermarket is the way to go.
Here is a link to a similar L92/6L90 swap by MAST Motorsports http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?p=447787
They used a MAST ECM so I know it can be done, I would just like to stick with the stock computer if possible to keep costs down... But an aftermarket ECM may be cheaper? Lots of details to research while I wait for the right truck!
Please point me in the direction of good info on this topic. Any recommended books? In depth technical info on the computer & wiring side of swaps seems to be pretty limited...

If you are going to use the 6.2L L92 VVT truck motor then I would stick with the Mast harness and PCM to avoid any issues, and assure a quality calibration. For the 6.0L L76 I would call a GM Performance Parts dealer such as Scoggin-Dickey, they should be able to help you out with a PCM, TCM and harness. Speartech and EFI Connection also offer harnesses and PCMs for Gen III/IVs.
