any ideas on possibilities , rail fp drops when key off to 30-32 psi pretty quickly less than a few seconds, once started runs like a charm

bad fuel pressure regulator.... its on the front of the injector spider... available separately... price them around...
you might also really really really want to inspect the intake manifold to cylinder head gaskets... they are almost all going bad... while you have it apart.. its only a few more hours to fix it right...
it could also be the check valve at the fuel pump in the tank....
or the flexible supply hose between the pump and the sending unit flange...
there is a small chance of an individual injector nozzle hanging open..
be sure... if you pick up the intake manifold gasket set.. get the one with the valve cover gaskets included...
you will also need an EGR valve gasket.. and a new 195 thermostat.. examine the coil for external high voltage leaks while you have it off... a new cap and rotor... be sure to set the harmonic balancer to TDC.. and don't crank the motor what ever you *** scribe the top of the rotor mounting plate and the housing before you loosen it.. they are a bear to get realigned.. it wont run if its not perfect... but wait.. you only ask about the fuel pressure..
i just thought you should know...

hey thanks for your time and info, and i will be sure to look at these things, consider once started it has never missed a beat or no sluggishness, engine compression and vacuum is great, another clue if gas or starter fluid is injected in tb it starts instantly. engine is clean as a whistle no leaks or fuel smell ever experienced, no fuel on oil dipstick, engine usually start after 4 to 7 cranks, so once again thanks for your help and any additional suggestions you may have.
ps. hey belive it or not i retired as a manufacturing mechanical engineer with gm after 21 years in the midwest, nice talking with you
