Hey all...I have a 2006 GTO M6...had a strange thing happen the other day, I stomped on the gas pedal and power shifted from 1st to 2nd and the clutch pedal stayed on the floor...anyone have any idea what might have happened?..I haven't got on it that hard again since this happened. I have noticed in the past when accelerating that the cltch pedal seems to raise up higher than normal.
Any help would be great.

how dirty is the clutch hydraulic fluid..????     is it full still...


have you replaced the clutch ???? does it have a centerforce clutch???

Johns,

It sounds like you have an issue in the hydraulic system. My advice would be to check the fluid like WayneP said and tell us what it looks like. Usually, a bottomed out pedal can be traced back to a slave cylinder issue, so you may look at replacing both that and the master.

Is this on a stock clutch?

i have been thinking about this...

i have seen similar problem on other brand cars...

do you have access to a way to lift your car for an undercar inspection...

if you can see your crank shaft pulley while the engine is running.. you might get away without it...

i worry that you have lost the crankshaft thrust bearing...   i have seen other failures that  let the crank move forward and back over a quarter inch..

with the car idling in Neutral..    standing inline with the belts...    so you can see any forward aft movement of the crank while the engine is running.. have them pump the clutch pedal...   see if the crank pulley moves forward when this happens...

its usually easier to see from under the car...

i usually pull a starter and use a dial indicator to measure through the starter mounting hole against the flywheel..

i don't like pulling and prying on the damper end..    you can usually get a pry bar or lever of some kind at an angle through the starter hole to push the crank forward... and again back ...

it has been reprinted in several magazines... this magazine is written for engine rebuilders...



why ???   when the throw out bearing pushes on the clutch fingers... it exerts force forward on the crank...   when the crank thrust bearings wear... the crank can move forward away from the throw out bearing.. changing your pedal height...

loads on the engine can change the position of the crank shaft ... the fan belt usually tries to center the crank under what ever is close by..


there is usually less than 0.015" of thrust movement allowable..  thats one third of what a spark plug gap is..

the dirapham  clutch cover will 'hang' open if the rpm's are high enough AND the through out brg.pushes the fingers 'past center' the dirapham clutch workes with centrifical force , back in the day it was very common.

this is just my opinion and i'm old school so i might be a little fuzzy on the facts
