I am helping my son with his 1994 Trans Am, I believe it has an LT1 in it.
Lots of miles and blown head gasket.
I would like to put an older (rebuilt) 350 small block back in its place.
will the transmission bolt up?and what other issues will I come up against ?
I know alot about the older motors, and nothing about the newer ones. so any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Shane,

Converting the car back to a "traditional" small block will be a lot of work and depending on your budget may not be worth the effort. As far as the transmission goes, it will bolt directly to the SBC but you will need a separate transmission controller (which you can find from TCI). Once you have the transmission and engine in place (you will need new motor mounts), you will also have to figure out what you are going to do with the factory gauges and computer system.

Are you going to use a carburetor?

there is going to be a problem./..

how are you going to get to the distributer??

why not read this article....

http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/tech/0506htp_lt1_high_mileage_reliable_build/index.html

and a few more to improve you knowledge of the LT1 motors... nothing wrong with learning..

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/ccrp_0909_lt1_engine_build/index.html

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/ccrp_0801_gen_ii_chevy_small_block_engine/index.html

the clearance for installing a distributer is really tight.. this is why they put it behind the harmonic damper...

doing a valve job and head gasket job on these is not easy... but its not impossible either..  just care taking it apart..   noting everything..   tagging and photographing everything..

i have done a few of there... even fell asleep one day laying over the nose of the car..  comfortable.. maybe..

anything is possible..
