Grand Sport LS3 Dry Sump

The dry sump version of the LS3 now available for the Grand Sport Corvette could provide the answer to my need for a reasonable cost dry sump solution for the 6.2 liter motor.

http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2009/9/9/VIDEO-2010-Corvette-Grand-Sport-LS3-Dry-Sump-Oil-System-Explained/

But several questions are raised that I hope the forum can answer:

1. Are the key parts available from GMPP: Unique LS3 pan, extended-nose steel crank, 2 stage pump (same as LS7's?)

2.  Is the LS3 dry sump pan an improvement on the LS7 pan? (Along the lines of the ARE dry sump pan?)

3. Will Grand Sport LS3 crate motors be available from GMPP?

4. Will dry sump be an option on the 376/480 GMPP crate motor? (Also the factory CNC heads?)

With plenty of power available from the 6.2 motor, the dry sump version is perfect for use in high g-force, light weight road/track cars where 7 liters of torque is not required and a modest budget exists.

Thanks for any help from those in the know.

one of the magazines .. just did a dry sump removal and conversion to a wet sump in the last few months..

this is what i saw...

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_1003_ls7_wet_sump_conversion/index.html

don't know if it will answer you exact questions...

you might want to download a new gmpp 2009 or 2010 catalog...

would you like a link to it????

this off site link might help...

Wayne,

Thanks for the comments and gminsidenews link.

The Hot Rod magazine article gives good insight into how the LS7 dry sump system is implemented, but as you mention the article is about a conversion to wet sump.  I am looking to go the other way on an LS3-based motor.  It should be similar.

The latest gmpp catalog does not list the 6.2 dry sump components.  Maybe the next  quarterly update will have them, along with other announced goodies like the LS9 supercharger package.

Alternatively, it looks like one could build a 6.8 liter dry sump motor using the LS7 long-nose crank in the LS3 block, the LS7 dual stage oil pump, and either the LS7 or an aftermarket pan.

Any other thoughts out there?
