Is there away to read the codes without a scan tool or check engine light. I guess what I'm asking is there away to hook up a test light to the ALDL to make it look like the test engine light and be able to count the pulses.
Thanks Doug
Waiting for my Bosch III's from Southbay. Hope that solves problems I have in other posts. The guys at Southbay were very nice and helpful.

i did post this link to the TPI wiring diagram on your other thread... you will have to copy and paste to view and print it...
http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/09/91/6f/large/0900c1528009916f.gif
i was looking a different wiring diagram.... tap into the circuit... from pin A5 brown and white in the diagram i have.. circuit 419....
run that to a tiny bulb.. i will have to look at more diagram.. before you do this.. and the other side of the bulb to switched power... when you short the A and B terminals ... it will cause the computer to start dragging A5 connector to ground making the light flash...
why i am worried.. to large an amperage bulb... it will damage the transistor in the computer and burn it out...
now.. if you want to put a switch in... to make it flash.. and i remember your harness is all chopped up...
ALDL.. pin A is wired to the ecm system ground... black and white wire.. circuit 450 ecm pin D3
ALDL pin b is what you want to drag to ground to make the check engine light flash.. white and black.. circuit 451... connector A9...
so a switch tapped into the wires from pin D3 and A9... when on. . the check engine light will flash..
hope this helps....
the delco bulb catalog.. shows 3 different bulbs used in the 194,,,, 161 and a 37.....
the 37 bulb has a 0.09 amp rating..
the 161 bulb has a 0.9 amp rating..
the 194 bulb has a 0.27 amp rating...
since the 37 is a tiny push in bulb.. its going to be hard to find a socket with wires to fit.. they are usually used to light up ignition keyways...
the 161 will fit in a conventional cornering lamp socket will probably work..... i worry about blowing the lamp driver with a test light... or a 194 bulb... it will probably work... i just have not verified which bulb is used in that socket position.. and don't have a gm car or cluster to take apart to double check right now...

Thanks a bunch Wayne, This should help a lot. We just happen to have a big assortment of small lamps at work and I'm pretty sure there are some CML 37's and sockets. No matter I can add in a resistor to get the correct current draw @12VDC
Just to be safe I'll make a little circuit board so the ECM will dive a transistor to drive the lamp. That way there is no chance to overdrive the ECM. Then any 12v lamp will work within reason.
Thank you again Doug

I'm going to try this out today. What I'm doing for the lamp is using a LED and a 510 ohm resister. This will give me .01 amps @ 12vdc of current draw. More than safe I Think.
Thanks

Wayne, It worked great. Hooked up my LED and got the propper 12 code. No other coeds present so I guess I'm ok. I will add a switch and mount the LED under the dash so I can check codes when needed.
Thank you very much Doug
