Hello, I signed up today because I'm hoping for a good spot to get some info whenever I need it on this motor.
I have a 2001 Silverado LT Z-71, which I have done all kinds of stuff to. 4/5 drop, 22's, colormatching and shaving....
As afr as performance I have ls1 efans, a ported and polished throttle body, dynatech stainless steel longtube headers, full 3" duals without cats to a dual in and out magnaflow muffler, custom tune, built my own CAI, and a few other smaller things. These mods woke the truck up tremendously, especially after I replaced the knock sensors and had more timing pulled out in the tune. With just a tune my heavy truck on 22's went 15.96 in the quarter lol.
About 5 months ago I purchased an LS1 aluminum shortblock out of an '02 Transam, knowing it needed a hone and new rings since it had been sitting out. Well I pulled it apart and one piston was melted (from nitrous i assume) and bearings were shot, I'd have to turn the crank and buy new pistons, blah blah. So that block is sitting on a shelf in my garage, and its a really nice block just dont wanna put the money into it.
Then I bought another aluminum LS1, longblock this time, supposedly 60K miles. Looks, good, minimal buildup in the intake ports, (a lot less than my 5.3 had at 160K) internals look good, motor turns over easily with crank bolt and still has great compression, so on. I secured a truck pan, pickup tube and windage tray from the seller, and was in the process of swapping them out today when I noticed the original pan had rivets thru the gasket and did a search on google just to make sure, and it brought me here! Where I learned that you just drill them out. One thing i wasnt pleased about on the motor was you could tell they used cheap dino oil, the internals are stained. In my '01 5.3 with 180,000 miles the internals are spotless, due to frequent mobil 1 changes.
My plans include of course another cam and springs, but thats later. I also have plans for the transmission which I need to get done.
Yesterday I went ahead and bought an oil pan gasket, new valve cover gaskets, new intake gaskets, (I'll be using the truck intake-its painted all pretty lol), new fel-pro header gaskets, 2 cans of gloss black engine paint, cheaper dino oil and fram filter and seafoam for initial startup and run, then mobil 1 with fram filter for after. bought NGK TR55 spark plugs because all my racing buddies are using them with nitrous and told me to get em
Let me know what you think so far!

before headers

As you can tell, my custom CAI interferes with the upper rad hose, so I'll be going to a ls1 car water pump, cause the opening comes out straight and would allow the hose to enter under the intake tube.

the dynatechs

crappy pic of headers in

The other ls1 aluminum block sitting there.

The new one

started buying some stuff

its been a quiet board lately... i don't know why... a lot of those views are also web bots.
other than that the truck looks great... looks like you have it all under control....
there are 12 or 14 truck magazines also... just in case missed them...

I'd recommend LS1Tech for this kinda build, but the mods might get mad I'm recommending a different forum.
...oops...
Nice truck btw! That things smoooooth. Question though: how come you went LS1? LQ9 would have been ALOT more torque and horsepower. "Reply #3"
'05 GTO: 3600 stall, Comp Cams, L92 heads, etc. etc.
'06 ZX14: lots a mods
