I have an Epica 2008 for which initially i was getting DTCs for shift solenoid 4 and 5. This was an internal gear problem and was repaired by the mechanics. The DTC's were cleared and transmission adaptives were reset. The gear have started to work fine but the "D" light on the instrument panel takes more than 3 secs to illuminate when the gear shifts to "D". An insight on this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

thats interesting...

how about hooking up a scan tool.... look at the live data stream....

look at the transmission manual position read out on the scan tool as you move from park.. into reverse into neutral.. into overdrive.. into drive... all the way to low...

The what....

on the side of the transmission where the neutral safety switch is located... is actually a transmission manual lever position sensor...

now.. let me explain that...

these are computer shifted transmissions...   the computer would really like to know your intent..  do you want to go forward...   do you want reverse... it needs to know this...  so.. mounted on the as it is known .. the manual position lever.. as you control its position manually...  P r N Od D 3 2 1...    each position changes what the computer is going to do with the solenoids in the transmission and how the engine responds..

so.. when you get a slow D light.. the manual position sensor might be going bad.. the connector could be loose...  could have corrosion problems..   the wires could be bad...

now.. on the newest cars...  the systems work with something called CAN...   controller area network...

think of eithernet.. where you have your computer wired together in a local area network... but this includes every electric item in your house...   now to save wire... they run a power and ground together with a pair of logic wires to every thing...    each item has its own address...  so the ecm gets and sends signals from every item...

if the switch contacts get dirty... they don't respond as fast...

if something happens in the CAN system.. it may respond slow...

i see that you are probably in the UK.... if you don't have a scan tool.. you might want to invest in one..

this one will do a lot for not to much money...
