My truck is got some issues. First in the cold it got flooded and backfired, that stripped the distributer gear. I replaced the timing chain, and the distributer gear. I cant seem to get it timed and now it has a bad miss. Then it sat for a week while I was at camp, and now it won't start. It cranks over, but has a very tight spot. Almost like a dead head spot. Any ideas before I end up taking it to some one that costs a lot of money.

disable the ignition.... see if it cranks normally.....
inside the distributer housing.. there are two tiny marks .. one has a 6 the other an 8. thats where the distributer lines up...

are you sure you got the distributer in with the crank and cam lined up properly...

remember.. the crank turns twice to the one turn of the cam and the one turn of the distributer..
why not find compression on the first cylinder on the drivers side.. set the damper timing mark to TDC and go from there to verify the rotor is pointing toward the proper cap terminal....
one thing.. i have had terrible problems with the vortec distributer caps.. with internal failures... where the spark will jump from one to the other inside the plastic.. makes for a really weird running motor ...
